The book outlines the development of evangelicals since the beginning of the 20th Century. Written by a scholar of American history, this book brings together lots of information from scattered historical resources and the links between them are masterfully explained.
The book is in three parts, starting with the theology at the border of 19th and 20th Centuries, and are divided according to the theological debate at different times in 20th Century. The first part "Knights Inerrant" of course focus on the Inerrancy issue (historical issue and its out-comings rather than the technical debate). The author does not discuss the more theological issues related to Barth, instead, she leads us to explore widely in the politics involved by Fundamentalists and (so-called) Neo-evangelists.
